Lois Jean Wilkes, 80, of Prairie Home, passed away February 29, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.
Visitation for Lois will be Thursday March 7 from 11:00 a.m. to Noon at Howard Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral service at Noon. Burial will follow in the Walnut Grove Church Cemetery on Highway 87.
Lois Jean Wilkes was born June 16th, 1943, in Cooper County, MO., the daughter of Richard Wichern and Alberta Dishion Wichern. Lois graduated from Quincy High school in June of 1961. She married Terry Wilkes on June 10th, 1967, in Quincy, Il. Lois was a nurse for the Cooper County Memorial Hospital for 28 years. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was an ordinance worker in the St. Louis Temple for nine years. In her spare time, she enjoyed researching and keeping family history, reading, sewing, and watching the squirrels outside. She loved spending time with her grandkids.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Alberta, son Peter, and step-sister Dorothy Gishwander. She is survived by her husband Terry of the home, son John Wilkes of Prairie Home, MO., daughters; Lora Lesniak of California, MO., and Alberta Wilkes of Rolla, MO., brother Ronnie Wichern of Girard IL., step-brother Ross Kelly of Mt. Sterling, IL., step-sisters; Frances Mann of Lentner, MO., and Emilie Venverloth of Quincy, IL. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Kate Lesniak, Kyle Lesniak, and Mark Lesniak, Trinity Frazier, Chloe Frazier, Ellinor Wilkes, Rulon Wilkes, and great-grandchild, Kaelyn Lesniak.
