Charles Elmer Roehrs passed away on November 8, 2018, at Katy Manor in Pilot Grove, MO.
Born October 21, 1923 in Bunceton, MO to John W. C. and Lillian Smith Roehrs, Mr. Roehrs lived his entire life in Bunceton, MO. He was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church, and was at the time of his death, the oldest living member of the church. Mr. Roehrs graduated from Bunceton High School in 1941, where he received several academic honors.
Mr. Roehrs was a WW II veteran, serving with the Fifth Army Headquarters in North Africa during the Italian Campaign where he earned four battle stars. After the war, he served in Army of Occupation in Austria and Germany. He reached the rank of Technician Fourth Grade in service. He was a member of the American Legion.
He married Lula Mae Wilson, Sept. 8, 1950, who preceded him in death on December 17, 2014.
Mr. Roehrs worked for Selwyn Shoe Company from 1947 -1970, and Toastmaster from 1970 – 1989, when he retired.
Following his wife’s death, he lived at Katy Manor in Pilot Grove. He participated in nearly every activity that was offered, becoming quite a Bingo fanatic. He loved the musical groups that came to perform for the residents, and he served as the Residents’ Representative at monthly meetings.
He is survived by Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Quillie Wilson) Alexander, Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey (Norma Wilson) Farris, Ms. Nancy Jo Heisler, Ms. Debra Stull Heisler, and numerous nieces and nephrews. He was preceded in death by 1 brother and sisters; Walter “Bud” Roehrs, Helen Roehrs Grovsner, Sarah Roehrs Stevens , and Evelyn Roehrs Schneider
Mr. Roehrs will be laid to rest, with military honors, at Bunceton Masonic Cemetery.
