Daniel Clay Burnett

Daniel C. “Dan” Burnett, 76, of Boonville passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Visitation for Dan will be 6 to 8 P.M. Friday, January 5, 2018 at Howard Funeral Home with a Masonic service starting at 6 P.M.  A celebration of Dan’s life will be10 A.M. Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Howard Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Paris officiating. Inurnment will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Daniel Clay Burnett was born January 16, 1941 in Boonville, Missouri the son of Ancel Clay Burnett and Virginia E. Kelley. He graduated Boonville High School in 1959. He married Norma Bechtel on November 11, 1961 at the First Baptist Church in Boonville. Dan was a First Class Merchant Marine Pilot licensed for 45 years and was in the Missouri River Rat Hall of Fame in Bellevue, Nebraska. Dan and Norma owned and operated Sun Transportation here in Boonville for 28 years. He was a member of the Cooper Lodge #36 AF&AM and a member of the First Baptist Church. Dan loved his John Deere tractor, he mowed, played and removed snow for the neighbors in the winter time. Most of all his grandchildren were the love of his life, he loved each of them with a love only a grandpa could have.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Bonnie Burnett. He is survived by his wife Norma of the home, Son, Bill (Laura) Burnett of Boonville, Mo. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Lauren Burnett, Savannah Burnett, Hank (Brandi) Hume and Laef Hume, his great-grandchildren, Silas P. Hume and Isabella J. Hume.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are to Community Foundation of Central Missouri (Boonville New Hope Animal Shelter.)
