Velda L (Fenton) Burton

Velda L. Burton, 88, of Boonville passed away peacefully at Boone County Hospital in Columbia, Missouri on Wednesday, January 24, 2018

Velda Loraine Fenton Burton was born November 10, 1929 at Harrisburg, MO.  She was the daughter of Grover Thomas Fenton & Etha Dougherty Fenton.  Velda married Lee Donald Burton on May 11, 1947 at Huntsville, MO.  They were devoted to each other for 62 years.  Lee preceded her in death on May 26, 2009.

Velda is survived by her two daughters: Sonya (Jim) Farris and Pamela (Skip) Jaeger both of Boonville.  She was devoted to her 5 granddaughters: Tami (Ben) Rold of Lee’s Summit, MO; Kelly (Troi) Morris of Boonville, MO; Jennifer (Bruce) Waibel of Boonville, MO; Kim (Matt) Walker of Maryville, MO; and Angie (Ja) Havens of Ada, OK.   She was also blessed with 13 great grandchildren: Ethan & Sophi Waibel; Lakin & Gage Rold; Lydia, Nora & Effie Morris; Drew & Jake Walker; and Trey, Tatum, Trent & Ty Havens.

Velda & Lee Burton moved to Boonville in 1960 from Huntsville, MO when Lee was transferred by Toastmaster Mfg.  They both worked for Toastmaster until their retirement.

Velda was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Boonville.  She was an accomplished seamstress, quilter and crafter who also loved to read and garden.  Velda and Lee loved to travel and visited 48 of the 50 states.  They were avid sports fans and traveled many miles and spent many evenings supporting their granddaughter’s athletic activities. 

Visitation for Velda will be from 1 – 2 pm on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Howard Funeral Home in Boonville, MO.   Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2 pm.  Burial will be 10 am Monday at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO.
