Charles Edwin McCue passed away on Saturday, August 5th, 2023 in Marshall, Missouri surrounded by his family.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, August 12th, 2023 at Howard Funeral Home in Boonville, Missouri. The Family will receive friends and loved ones from 10:00am until 11:30am to share memories. At 11:30 a prayer and remembrance will be given.
Charlie was born to Kenneth Edwin and Virginia Lee (Brown) McCue in Atchison, Kansas on January 16th, 1934. He joined siblings Mary Lou (Jon) McCue Arrensburg, Ken McCue, Jr. and Jack McCue, Sr.
Charlie grew up in Lawrence, Kansas playing many sports but most prominently in football. Receiving local, state and national awards and honors earning him the football nickname “Chuggin’ Charlie.” He continued his football career at The University Of Kansas from 1956-1958. He then married Barbara Fern Shelton on October 23, 1969 in Las Vegas, NV. They had three children, Sean, Paige and Derek.
Charlie coached and eventually became the Athletic Director at Kemper Military School and College. He then became the principal of Blackwater Elementary, then moved to principal at Glasgow Elementary from 1977-1996 where he retired from education and went to work alongside his wife Barbara. He partook in many community events and activities throughout the years from coaching, refereeing, being with family and friends. If you knew anything about Charlie he loved his family and loved his Kansas Jayhawks.
Charlie was an inspiration for his constant compassion, resilience and leadership that he showed throughout his entire life. We are fortunate to know that his legacy will live on through all of us. Charlie was a humble man, he loved life and wanted to get the most of every day. He always said don’t rush your days, they go by too quick.
Charles is survived by his wife, Barbara (Shelton) McCue; Children , Sean McCue, Paige (Darin) McCue-Noah, Derek McCue; Granddaughter, Jordan McCue.
