Dorothy Sue Doig was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend. She passed away in Reynoldsburg, OH on May 19, 2022 at age 69.
She was born to Robert and Dorothy Cunningham in St. Louis, MO on July 31, 1952. She was the ninth child in her family of twelve children, and she shared endless stories and memories of growing up in a large, close-knit household.
Dorothy graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in Reseda, CA in 1970, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Long Beach in 1974. Dorothy went on to have a rewarding 33-year career as an elementary and middle school teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District. She was a popular and well-loved teacher, earning a “Teacher of the Year” award before retiring in 2011. Dorothy was very proud of her time in the classroom, impacting the lives of so many children.
Dorothy loved spending time at home, reading a good book, and catching up with friends and family. She was always known for helping others, going above and beyond, and having a good sense of humor.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Michael (Kelly), David (Kira), and Katherine; her grandchildren Ronan, Elowen, and Emma; and her former husband, Robert.
A funeral service is scheduled for 1pm on May 26, 2022 at the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Boonville, MO. She will be laid to rest near her mother and father.
