Ewing Knorp Obituary

Ewing W. Knorp, age 102, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Katy Manor in Pilot Grove, MO. He was born in Cooper County on October 10, 1918 to John and Jessie (Smith) Knorp.

He married Eva Elaine Pettigrew on September 6, 1941. They were lifelong residents of Prairie Home where Ewing farmed with his brother Charles. He was the fourth generation to live on and work the land of his ancestors.

Ewing was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Prairie Home where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Director for many years. He was active in community organizations and was board member of several, including Prairie Home Civic Club, Prairie Home Fire Association, Prairie Home School Board, and the Prairie Home Fair.

In addition to his parents, Ewing was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Elaine, his brothers Charles and Dorsey Knorp, half siblings Tom Harris, Elmer, Bill, and Clara Knorp, Stella Sarman, his son-in-law, David Smith and step grandson, Aaron Newell.

He leaves behind daughters, Sherryl Smith, Dana (Darrell) Newell all of Prairie Home, granddaughters Debbi Baker and Connie Smith of Kansas City, step granddaughter Asia Newell of Columbia, great granddaughter Hailei Baker also of Kansas City.

Ewing worked hard all of his life and dedicated himself to family, community, and church.  He loved being around people talking and telling funny stories. He was never at a loss for words and never met a stranger. That endeared him to so many who enjoyed his company. He loved to travel when he had time and opportunity and he never lost his love of motorcycles.

His family loved him so much and will miss him and the endless stories about the people and events of Prairie Home and surrounding communities.

A private family service will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. and live streamed on Howard Funeral Home Facebook page with burial to follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church of Prairie Home.
