Francis "Poncho" Brengarth Obituary

Francis “Poncho” Jennings Brengarth, 96, of Boonville passed away Sunday, December 4, 2022 at Katy Manor Nursing Home in Pilot Grove.

Visitation for Francis will be Thursday, December 8, 2022, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, December 9, 2022, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Francis Jennings Brengarth was born September 1, 1926, the son of Frank and Isabell (Felton) Brengarth. He served in the Marine Corp from 1944 to 1946.  While in service, he was in the Atlantic Theater in World War II. After his service, he married Samma Odom September 27, 1948.  They were married for 72 years until her passing in 2021.  Francis was a farmer and enjoyed being outdoors, raising cattle and driving the combine with his dogs by his side. He loved to hunt and fish with his children as well as gardening and canning with his daughter Lisa. In his free time, he was an avid reader until his eyesight dimmed and enjoyed playing pitch with many of his friends.  Francis was a man of great faith saying the rosary daily.  He was a member of the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church, Knights of Columbus, Eagles Lodge, VFW Post and a founding member of Gooch’s Mill Sportsman Club. He also volunteered on many boards including the Cooper County Ambulance District and the Cooper County Fire District boards. Francis lived his life by the grace of daily obligation excelling as a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He was loved by his family and many friends and will be dearly missed.

Francis is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Isabell Brengarth, wife Samma Brengarth, and son Frank “Frankie” D. Brengarth. He is survived by his sons Johnny (Molly Holst) Brengarth of Wooldridge, Steve (Jane) Brengarth of Boonville, James “Jimmy” (Cindy) Brengarth of Columbia, and Lisa (Matt) Waterman of Columbia, grandchildren Holly Brengarth, Jennifer (Paemon) Moghaddas, Rhett (Lauren) Brengarth, Megan (John) Bray, Seth Brengarth, Brit (Erin) Brengarth, Sarah Brengarth, Emily Brengarth, Wesley (Melissa) Waterman and Will Waterman and seven great grandchildren.
