Gary Gordon Pike, 82, passed to his heavenly home at 12:33 AM Thursday, March 11, 2021. He was a 1957 graduate of Quincy Senior high school in Quincy, Illinois and attended Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri and Culver Stockton college in Canton, Missouri before his marriage in 1960. Throughout his school years he was active in numerous clubs and activities. He was particularly interested in the performing arts (music and drama) and studied under Nesbitt Blaisdell, Jim Andrews, and David Cropp in college and in Quincy Little Theater and played various roles throughout the years. Gary was also active in Jaycees, participating in various community projects.
He started his business career in 1961 at Pike Tire Service. Over time, he owned and operated tire and auto businesses and served on the board of directors for state and national independent tire dealers associations. Later in life he transitioned to sales, marketing, and advertising ventures.
He was active in church activities and projects for many years, serving as teacher, mentor, encourager, and in drama presentations. He was a favorite of his grandchildren because of his lighthearted humor and silly antics and mutual love of popcorn and sweets.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years Sharon McNett Pike, daughter Lori Lynn White of Ewing, Missouri, son, Troy Travis Pike of Houston, Texas, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Harper Pike and father James Grose Pike both of Quincy, a sister Karen Pike Wellman, a brother James Harper Pike of Keokuk, Iowa, a son James Cyrus (CY) Pike and daughter Polly Gay Pike Mefford. There will be a celebration of his life at Quincy Faith Assembly, 4000 State St. on Saturday, March 27 from 2 to 4 PM. People will be welcome to share thoughts and memories during that time.
