James Richard Stanaway was born June 24, 1940 in Marion, Iowa, the son of James Harold Stanaway and Luella Faith Messerschmitt. He graduated from Marion High School in 1958 and went on to receive a Bachelor’s of Science in agriculture from Iowa State University. After college, Jim moved to Cooper County to take a position as a 4-H Youth Agent and lived in Cooper County the remainder of his life. Jim married Mary Polster in August 1961, they had two children Suzanne Stoecklein and Janet Stevens. He married Marilyn Dudek on December 19, 1980 and from this union came his son David Stanaway. Jim loved his family and took pride in his work. Farming was his passion. Early on he started in the hog business raising purebred Hampshires. As times changed he increased his cow herd and in 1998 came the greenhouse and landscaping business. Jim never knew a stranger, could reminisce for hours, and never stopped learning. His ability to outwork anyone will live on forever. He was loved by so many, and will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn Stanaway of Boonville, son David Stanaway of Boonville, daughters Suzanne (Brad) Stoecklein of Macon and Janet Stevens of Columbia, grandchildren Ryan (Coree) Stoecklein and Katy Stoecklein (Fiancé Bryce McDonald).
