James Richard “Jim” Stanaway, 80, of Boonville, Missouri passed away Wednesday evening April 14, 2021 at his home.

Visitation for Jim will be Friday, April 30, 2021 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church. Celebration of life will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Chris Snyder officiating. Please wear your mask and practice social distancing while in the church.

James Richard Stanaway was born June 24, 1940 in Marion, Iowa, the son of James Harold Stanaway and Luella Faith Messerschmitt. He graduated from Marion High School in 1958 and went on to receive a Bachelor’s of Science in agriculture from Iowa State University. After college, Jim moved to Cooper County to take a position as a 4-H Youth Agent and lived in Cooper County the remainder of his life. Jim married Mary Polster in August 1961, they had two children Suzanne Stoecklein and Janet Stevens. He married Marilyn Dudek on December 19, 1980 and from this union came his son David Stanaway. Jim loved his family and took pride in his work.  Farming was his passion. Early on he started in the hog business raising purebred Hampshires.  As times changed he increased his cow herd and in 1998 came the greenhouse and landscaping business.  Jim never knew a stranger, could reminisce for hours, and never stopped learning. His ability to outwork anyone will live on forever. He was loved by so many, and will be dearly missed.

Jim was proceeded in death by his parents James and Faith Stanaway, sisters Ruth McGinnis and Marjorie Martin. He is survived by his wife Marilyn Stanaway of Boonville, son David Stanaway of Boonville, daughters Suzanne (Brad) Stoecklein of Macon and Janet Stevens of Columbia, grandchildren Ryan (Coree) Stoecklein and Katy Stoecklein (Fiancé Bryce McDonald).

Memorial contributions are suggested to American Heart Association or Cooper County 4-H Council.
