John Lyle Schmidt, Sr.

John L. Schmidt, Sr., 86, of Bunceton passed away Saturday morning May 14, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.

Visitation for John will be 5 to 8 P.M. Friday evening May 20 at Howard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Saturday May 21 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Weisenborn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

John Lyle Schmidt, Sr., was born March 12, 1936, in Boonville, MO., the son of Leonard J. Schmidt and Kathryn E. Bryan Schmidt. He graduated from Bunceton High School in 1954 and went on to serve in the Army National Guard until 1960. He married Virginia Irene Reichel on June 7, 1958, in Bunceton at the Grace Lutheran Church. John loved taking care of his farm, growing fresh vegetables in the garden and loved to dance when time allowed. He was an elder, trustee and Sunday school teacher at Zion Lutheran Church. John never knew a stranger and enjoyed telling stories every chance he got. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved playing with the great grandkids.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Kathryn and sister, Joyce Pulley. He is survived by his wife Virginia of the home, son, John L. Schmidt, Jr. of Bunceton, daughter, Teresa J. (Cletus) Twenter of Boonville, MO., his grandchildren, Brandy (Ricky) Morgan, John (Shani) Twenter, David Schmidt, Carie (Develyn) Rhodes and Katerina (Greg) Thurman. Also surviving is his aunt, Barbara Jean Robinson of Oklahoma, great-grandchildren, Marshall Stutzman, Clayton Schmidt, Paisley Twenter, Scarlett Thurman, Selena Rhodes, Reagan Twenter, Eleanor Rhodes and Kennedy Twenter. All the people will miss him that he has touched over the years.
