Laura Nell “Nellie” Gingrich passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Anthology of Town and Country in St. Louis, MO. Visitation for Nellie will be held at Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church on Monday, August 2, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with the funeral immediately following at the Church. Burial will follow the service at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Nellie Gingrich was born on December 13, 1933 in Kentucky. Nellie was the daughter of Ellen Ione and Raymond Johnson. Nellie lived most of her adult life in Boonville, after graduating high school in Kentucky. Upon moving to Boonville, Nellie met and married Danny Earhart III, who preceded her in death in 1965. In Boonville, Nellie also began an approximately 15-year career as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. Nellie also worked at the Gingrich family business, Shryack-Givens, over the next many years.
On April 12, 1969, Nellie married John W. “Jack” Gingrich. They were married until his death in 1999. Nellie was an active member of Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of the Boonville Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Nellie had a passion for needlework, was an avid bridge player and reader, and was recognized for her dedication to the Boonville, MO Women’s Bowling Association.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers (Raymond Lee Johnson, Clyde Johnson, Gerald Johnson, and Bruce Johnson), and three sisters (Dorothy Fredmeyer, Jonelle Johnson, and Sue Hokensmith). She is survived by two sisters, Betty Head of Kentucky and Ann Manuel of South Carolina.
Nellie was blessed with one daughter, Charisse Earhart (husband Gary) of St Louis and one step-son, John Gingrich (wife Dabney) of Billings, MT. She also has one grandson, Preston Gingrich of Billings, MT. All survive.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Miller Lab at Washington University. The Miller Laboratory is dedicated to understanding neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and dementias, in order to develop new, effective, and safe treatments.
