Lynn Lutz Obituary

Jo Lynn Lutz, 80, of Boonville, MO passed away Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Ashley Manor in Boonville.

Visitation for Lynn will be at Howard Funeral Home Thursday, March 30 from 5 to 7 pm with a Rosary at 7 pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 am Friday, March 31, 2023 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Bill Peckman officiating.  Burial will follow in the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery.

Lynn was born June 14, 1942, in Troy, MO, the daughter of Woodrow and Abby (Brown) Hill.  On June 19, 1965, she married Irl Martin Lutz and with this union came 2 sons, 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  Lynn graduated from Buchanan High School (Troy, MO) in 1960 and went on to continue her education at Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman University) graduating in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics.  She graduated from Central Methodist College (now Central Methodist University) in 1970 with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education.  She taught for 15 years, 7 of those at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic School.  She worked for Hennessy Music for many years before her retirement in 2006.

Lynn was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church for nearly 60 years.  She served as the Turkey Dinner chair several years, was a member of the Parish Council and as a Lector.  She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella.

Lynn was a constant worrier, but one thing she never worried about was that God loved her and she loved God. When she and Irl got engaged all she asked was that they go to church together as a family. On the day they were married, she also became Catholic. She and Irl raised their sons to be faithful Catholics and followers of Christ. That legacy of faith has been carried onto the grandchildren. It is true what they say that if the Dad goes to Mass regularly and is an active participant in the life of the parish, that their children will follow. In the case of the Lutz family, it truly was both parents that were the leaders of faith.

Lynn was a caretaker at heart. When Irl was diagnosed with Parkinson's, Lynn was his primary caregiver. It was very hard for her when her health declined and she couldn't care for him as she used to.

Lynn loved to cook and bake. Irl had quite the sweet tooth so there was always a homemade pie, cake or cookies in the house! You could always count on her to bring a broccoli rice casserole, deviled eggs and a pecan pie to any family gathering.

Lynn was preceded in death by her husband, Irl M. Lutz, her parents, brother, Gary Hill and sister-in-law Theresa McCarl. She is survived by her sons, Brian (Patricia) Lutz and Barry (Amanda) Lutz, grandchildren, Laurel Lutz, Rachel Lutz, Ben Lutz, Bridgette Lutz and Landon Lutz, great-grandchildren, Saphira and Rylan Kioh, all of Boonville, brother Kent (Evelyn) Hill of Union, MO, and several nieces and nephews.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to SS. Peter & Paul Church or SS. Peter and Paul Education Foundation.
