Richard Langkop, Jr. Obituary

Richard Waldo Langkop Jr., age 91, of Boonville, Missouri passed away on September 11, 2024, after a fall and short hospital stay.

Rich was born October 3, 1932, in Boonville, Missouri, the son of Richard Waldo Sr. and Lenora Ruth Ohlendorf Langkop.

Rich graduated from Bunceton High School in 1950, He joined the military, achieved the rank of sergeant in the army and served in Panama. He then attended the University of Missouri where he earned a degree in agriculture engineering and was a member of the ROTC.

Rich married Alice Elizabeth Odneal on April 22, 1961, at Bunceton Federated Church, Rev. Rob officiating. They were married for 63 happy years and were blessed with 2 daughters, Christine (Mike Sprick) Fuhlage of New Franklin and Callie (Mike) Glascock of Ashland and 3 grandchildren Austin (Kaitlin Dobson) Fuhlage of Fayette, Ashton (Cord) Barricklow of Lebanon, IN and Laci Fuhlage of Fayette. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Jane Odneal, of Jefferson City, two nephews, Mitch (Lori) Odneal of Jefferson City and Robert (Lori Niblock-Allen) Odneal of Jefferson City as well as his brother’s children and grandchildren.

After college, Rich and Alice moved to Paris, Texas where Rich worked at the Ford Tractor Training Center, and they welcomed both their daughters. They moved back closer to home to open an equipment dealership; Rich was also a deputy sheriff and worked for Potter Trucking. He loved to water ski, could complete the slalom course and taught many others how to ski, he golfed for many years as well and won numerous tournaments.

He drove to Route B every morning for breakfast, got a root beer float at A&W at noon, played the poker machine at the boat and mowed his yard right up until his final hospital stay. He loved his dogs, Smokey who was in an ALPO commercial for stopping a robbery and would only eat ALPO dog food and Lucky who he took in after he was found caught in a trap.

He was most proud of his grandchildren’s accomplishments, especially in the rodeo arena, as everyone that goes to Route B can attest.

Rich was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Boonville, and we are so grateful that Pastor Ketelsen came to the hospital to give a devotional, prayers and gave Rich and the family communion before his passing.

Proceeding him in death were his parents, his mother and father-in-law, his brother, Glen Langkop, and his brother-in-law, Donald Odneal.

A service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Boonville with Pastor Ketelsen officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Inurnment will be at Walnut Grove cemetery at a later date.
