Richard Truman Nelson, Jr., 89, of Bunceton passed away peacefully on February 18, 2018 at Katy Manor in Pilot Grove, MO.
Visitation for Richard (known as Dick) will be Friday, February 23, 2018 at Howard Funeral Home from 6pm-8pm. with a Masonic service starting at 6pm. Funeral services will be at Bunceton Baptist Church on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 2pm with Richard Louis Nelson, Jr. and Steven Mark Nelson, II. officiating. Burial will follow in the Bunceton Masonic Cemetery.
Dick was born in Bunceton on August 16, 1928 the son of Richard Truman Nelson, Sr. and Anna Mae Ford. He graduated from Bunceton High School and then married Marjorie Lou Hurt on September 11, 1949. Dick served his community as the Bunceton Mayor and a Bunceton School Board member. Dick was an active church member who taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon. He was honored as a committed Mason for over 60 years. Dick was a well-known farmer, trucker and horseman with an engaging smile and quick wit. Dick was a family man who had a special relationship with his grandchildren who called him Pa Dick.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marjorie, and son Steven Mark Nelson. He is survived by his son, Richard Louis Nelson, Sr. and wife Teresa of Boonville, and daughter Mary Ann Austin of Harrisburg. He is also survived by his sisters Mary Alice Dick of Bunceton and Nancy Stephens of Buckner. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Richard Louis Nelson, Jr., Cristina Nelson, Steven Mark Nelson, II., Suzanne Adams, Ashley Benny, Travis Nelson, Jake Nelson, Clay Austin, and Anna Nelson. He also was the proud great grandfather to 13 great grandchildren.
