Obituary

Robert Frederick Bail, 86, of Boonville passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, surrounded by his family and Rev. Paul Weisenborn.

Visitation will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Lone Elm on Sunday, April 2, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will take place the next morning, Monday, April 3, at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church; family will receive friends starting at 10:00 AM. Burial will take place following the service at the church cemetery. Attendees are invited to lunch at the Zion Activity Center following funeral services and burial.

Robert Frederick (Bob) Bail was born July 2, 1936, in Pilot Grove, the only child of Frederick Menrod Bail and Ada Mary Sophie (Hein) Bail. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, and attended Lone Elm School and Boonville High School, graduating in 1954. Bob was active in 4-H during his younger years, and after a short stint in the National Guard, he returned to the farm and worked for the rest of his life as a truckdriver and cattleman. He lived all of his life on a Missouri Century Farm, originally owned by his grandparents, Peter and Sophie (Fricke) Hein. Like his parents before him, Bob enjoyed raising cattle, and had a local trucking business. He hauled cattle, hogs, and grain for many of today’s local farmers and their parents before them, forging many lifelong friendships along the way. On February 8, 1986, Bob married Patricia Ann Cundiff at Zion Lutheran Church. Their marriage was blessed with three children – Matthew, Hannah, and Rebekah. Bob cared for their children on the farm while Pat worked away from home for many years, and he was instrumental in the decision to pursue a Christian education for all three kids. He was active in his church and served as a Zion Lutheran schoolboard member for many years. He maintained his cattle herd until his final days; in later years, balancing this activity with his love for antiquing and his daily trips to McDonalds for coffee and gossip with friends.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Ada and Fred Bail, and his daughter through miscarriage, Kayce Irene. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Bail, son Robert Matthew (Kelly) Bail, and daughters Hannah Marie Bail and Rebekah Carlene Bail. Bob also leaves behind his new grandson, Harrison Patrick, of whom he was so proud.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran School.
