Rodger Allen “Hondo” Lane, of Bonne Terre, MO, passed away September 16, 2023 at Katy Manor in Pilot Grove, MO.
Rodger was born November 28, 1936, the son of Mary Ethel (Mattingly) and William Allen Lane in Maplewood, IL. He was a 1954 graduate of Cahokia High School in Cahokia, IL and attended Ranken Technical College. He worked for 35 years as a draftsman and salesman for Russell and Axon in St. Louis, MO. He married the love of his life, Norma Jo Miller, in 1957 and they recently celebrated 66 years. Together they raised two children and countless animals including dogs, horses, chickens, rabbits, and cats. After retirement, they moved to Terre du Lac, MO, where Rodger could be found on the golf course or with a fishing pole in hand. Their lake house was a retreat for their grandkids and all their friends. He taught them to fish, drive golf carts, golf, tube and ski, and built memories that will last forever. Known as “Hondo” by all his friends, he was always the life of the party. He loved to tell stories, travel the country, dance with anyone who was willing, sing karaoke, smoke cigars, play poker, drink a gin martini on the deck, and do anything to make people laugh including wearing costumes that Norma created for Christmas for the last 30 years. Rodger truly lived life to the fullest, broke the rules, and lived every word of his favorite Frank Sinatra song by doing life “My Way”.
Rodger was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Maxwell Lane, Dorothy (Patrick), and Helen (Drexler).
Survivors include his wife, children Lori (Jim) Woods of Boonville, MO, Jeff (Kim) Lane of Waterloo, IL, grandchildren Haley (Brandon) Floyd, Jordan (Casey) Lane, Kaylyn (JT) Lynch, and Brittany Woods (Eric King), great-grandchildren Tucker and Connor Floyd, Emersyn, Lucy, and Hudson Lane, Addison Lynch, Vayda Stretz and Elliot King, sister-in-law Doris (Earl) Eugea as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
